Office wetted by a rain storm
El Nino rains can bring street flooding and roof failures to large parts of the Bay Area. Earlier this year the San Francisco Bay Area experienced many locations with rain damaged structures. Here's an interesting story about how this flooding happened.
One way that rain water can enter a building is from plumbing vent stacks. These are vent pipes that extend through the roof and provide ventilation for sinks and toilets. On this office building the flat roof was flooded by heavy rains that could not drain off the roof before the water rose to a level above the vent pipes. Roof water flowed down the vent pipes and flooded out of the sinks and toilet bowls spilling water onto the floors. Our mitigation company extracted the standing water and got the structure dry.
