Carpet Cleaning / Dust Mites

3/27/2018 (Permalink)

In the average home 85% of the “dust” particles that can be seen in the indoor air are skin flakes (dander). Shin flakes are the principle food source for Dust Mites. No wonder the average home is a breeding place for more than two million Dust Mites. Mites can double their numbers in ten hours. Each Mite produces between ten and twenty drops of feces daily. It is the Dust Mites’ feces that trigger allergic reactions in more than ten million Americans. This debris ends up in your carpets. (FYI… Dust mites do not bite people. They are more of a respiratory irritant.)

But the idea of having dust mites in a home makes you want to rip out your carpets? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that homes with wall-to-wall carpeting are healthier, as long as the carpets are cleaned frequently. This is because of your carpets’ natural filtering ability that traps all types of pollutants (mold spores, pollens, Mites, etc.) Once your carpet filter is full, its time for a thorough hot water extraction. There are official guidelines that establish carpet cleaning frequency standards. We can share this with you during our carpet cleaning inspection. On average most carpets should be cleaned at least two times each year. For details see: epa.com.

You might be wondering if NOW the Best Time to Have My Carpets Cleaned?

YES!! Every day you put off carpet cleaning, sandy soils are wearing and dulling your carpet fibers. This wearing reduces the life span of your carpets. Each day dust, pollens, debris from dust mites, oils, soot and cooking grease are deposited into your carpets. Does your indoor air smell stale? Indoor air pollutants make for a very unhealthy living environment. The good news is carpet cleaning can correct these problems! Our hot water extraction method will kill bacteria and Dust Mites. It will clean and remove unwanted pollutants from the largest filter in your home… your carpeting. According to the U.S. EPA, cleaning with water that is in excess of 140 degrees will improve indoor air quality.

Most folks want the satisfaction of knowing that their home is really clean and that one of the most expensive decorator features in a home, the carpeting will look nice and last longer. SERVPRO of Belmont/San Carlos can help.... reach us at 650-591-4137.
